Giving hope to others, especially to unfortunate children who have been left orphaned or abandoned is fulfilling work for those who seek to make a difference. Giving others hope in the midst of difficult life situations can be the difference between seeing people move forward in their lives creating the positive life affirming changes needed or seeing them give up and live a life of despair.
Run for Hope is an organization that believes in bringing hope to those less fortunate and they do so by using sports to raise money for various charities. Founder of Run for Hope, Kent Ong along with Chai Chin and Chlovin Kung held a charity swim at Z Residence to raise funds for Rumah K.I.D.S. on September 21, 2015.
Kent Ong, Chai Chin and Chlovin Kung are runners and swimmers so creating this online fund raising platform has proven to be the perfect way to help others. The organization uses sports such as swimming, running, and bike riding to help those in need. So far they have held five runs this year which has helped various charities.
The charity swimming in September was to raise funds to help Rumah Kids, which is a non-profit charitable home for orphaned and abandoned children in Selangor, Malaysia. The children are provided with shelter, food, clothing, and education and equipped for building a better life. The goal of Run for Hope is to create opportunities for children to change their lives and they use sports as a means to do so.
Kent Ong and his team received volunteer support from Malaysia Teachers Swimming Association (MTSA) associates, Mr. Yip and Esther Ang during their charity swim at Z Residence in raising the funds for the home for children.
On November 7,2015, Kent Ong was invited to present his charity swimming at the MSTA’s first anniversary held at Subang National Golf Club at Petaling Jaya to help bring awareness to their charity and the great need to raise funds for children. Kent Ong also presented his upcoming swim event which hopes to raise RM100,000 by swimming 20km from Butterworth to Penang Island. Run for Hope will also be working with Malaysia Teacher’s Swimming Association for the upcoming event.
During the presentation at Subang National Golf Club, three of the charity swimmers from Run for Hope were acknowledged by MSTA and received certificates from MSTA Malaysia and MSTA UK. It was a great day and there is great confidence the upcoming 20km swim will be a great success.
